Well, I just gave the insurance company a piece of my mind. And I don’t do that often, so this must have hit a nerve.
I was looking online to see if the nutritionist that my surgeon recommended that I see was in the program. She wasn’t, so I started trying to find the closest one of the four within 25 miles. Turns out she would be in Plymouth, which is doable, but I knew nothing about her. Strike one.
So, I looked up the address and read about the group. Hmmm. Looked like I would have to drive to St. Paul to get the services I needed. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Strike two.
And, then I thought, wait, I looked up nutritionist under the “n” —-what about looking up dietician under “d”? Maybe she would be in that category.
And she was! But wait again. Would she be covered in my program? Why the difference? And, if there’s one thing I’ve discovered it’s that common sense doesn’t always exist in insurance companies.
So, I called the company back and explained my confusion. I have found that it’s often best to plead ignorance/confusion because then people feel good helping you!
And, better yet, if the person on the other end of the line can hear that you are a person, or you can make them laugh, you have a chance of getting the info you need.
I laughed with both Mark and Olivia today since I made two calls to the insurance company. And, I found out that I would be covered if I went to the dietician recommended by my surgeon. Home run!!!
Sometimes, it’s the small things that make a difference.
Hugs,
Janet
