I’m Baaaaaaaack!

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning, Friends! And a Happy 2015 to you from the frozen tundra.

Last time I glanced at the thermometer, it read 0 degrees. Of course that doesn’t measure wind chill which I think is considerable this morning. Last night after the Gopher hockey victory in overtime we were tromping down towards the Fourth Street Ramp with the rest of the fans when a blurst—-yes, I said blurst—-a blowing burst— of wind hit us all. There was a common moan rising from the crowd, as they further sunk into the shoulders of their jackets.  We knew it was going to be colder coming out of the game than going in, and it was. But I also heard in that moan a recognition of the cold that was to come.

It was a meaning filled moan that only a Midwesterner would recognize. Yep. the weather forecasters were right. Dang.

We had received snow during the game, too. It was only a half inch or so, but when driving home, the snow was a problem on 35W while the east west of 694 was as clear as can be. I think I’ll call that wind shaving as long as I’m making up words.

No Transition Here++++++++ Absolutely None+++++++++

I have glow in the dark fingernail polish decorating my poor choppy fingernails. If you’re wondering if it works, I’m here to tell you that it does. And this coat was put on a week ago Saturday by my four year old manicurist.  It makes me smile when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. The light is on just long enough to make them glow as I get back into bed.

We were in Michigan visiting our daughter and her family. It was a wonderful visit. But I did not have my laptop and have not yet figured out how to write and send a post from my I Pad. Still learning.

I do have two pics that I’ll share with you from that visit. The first is from our favorite coffee shop, the Bear Claw. It’s located right across from the motel we stay at. It’s an old stone building plunked down in a triangle in the middle of two busy streets. It is only drive through and when you drive up the attendants skip down the stairs to take your order, then run back up to fill it. I fell in love with the building the first time I saw it. And what a coincidence that it’s right across the street from where we stay!  Here it is.

It’s not far from the stadium which brings me to my next subject. Yes, this was a transition!!!  While we were there, the University of Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh to be their next head football coach. The importance of this is huge; Harbaugh was the Wolverine QB in the 80’s after growing up there as a young boy when his father was defensive coach. When he made his first appearance as head coach, customers in the M Den all stopped and watched the tvs. Markees around town welcomed him back, including the one on our motel. Just a note: Blue refers to U of Michigan Ann Arbor.

It was a happy time in A2.

And, the last item I’ll share with you is that I’m beginning a seven week basic quilt class on Monday. Yesterday I bought my supplies and fabric. Today I prep them and pack everything I need  for tomorrow’s two and a half hour class. Nervous and excited for this class. I have been wanting to take it for a long time, but chemo and surgeries got in the way.  Here’s the fabric:

The flowered print is the border, the white is the background. There are small prints on the green, pink, yellow and dark blue that are hard to see here. It will be bright and cheery to work on! The fat quarters(green, pink, yellow and dark blue)  and the white need to be pressed before tomorrow. I also need to fill some bobbins.

Wish me luck in the class. I can think better than I could a few months ago and waaaaaay better than I could a year ago.  I still have times when it’s difficult to concentrate, but they aren’t as frequent.  I was always slow in sewing classes, I need to remember that.

Buffy and Katya send their greetings, albeit separately. Katya is still quarantined, waiting for the results of the ringworm test taken on 12/24.  Hope it’s negative.

Stay warm if you’re here in Minnesota and get outside in the sunshine if you’re lucky enough to be on vacation!

Love,

Janet
