Hello Friends!
I hope you are staying warm tonight because the temp is going to dip and the winds will be blowing those 20 below wind chills our way bright and early in the morning. But the silver lining in that cloud is that by Thursday, we’ll be up to 30 and wearing our jackets open!! I am so looking forward to that. A good old January thaw!
Meanwhile, it was time for my second quilt class today. At the beginning of class she talked about what we’d have done by the end of class; one block and possibly two!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Well, folks, that didn’t take into account having to resew four out of four seams on a part of the block. Oh for crying out loud!!!!! First one person in class passed me by and then one by one the others zoomed on by.
And then once the seams were sewn correctly, I had to square up my blocks. The instructor was so nice as she told me that this was a good skill to have and that she would be teaching to the rest of the class in a few lessons.
So, evidently I am ahead on making mistakes!
Now, as I struggle with the fifth step of the day, we begin the sixth, learning a new skill along with learning how to use new tools. Okay. I can do this, I tell myself. So I pay attention and learn the new stuff.
And then I go back to finish up the previous step. When I finish with that, I discover that all that shiny new knowledge is not quite as shiny and new as it was. Now, I am running a dredging operation as I try to pull up those memories from where they’ve been dumped by the current sewing skills.
I have discovered that sewing skills are not as friendly to each other as you would think. You’d think that they would welcome new skills like new friends, with open arms, looking for connections, But noooo. They are standoffish and not the least bit willing to link together.
By the end of class I barely have one block done. Others have left already, with their first block and a good deal of the second one done. Sigh.
Here are four pics of what happened when I tried to take a picture of the block.
I put the block on the table and readied the iPad to take a pic. Just after I took a shot, Buffy walked across it, then turned around and sat down on the block itself!! Right on the center of the block!
I guess she’s giving it her seat of approval.
Homework for next week is the finish the second block and then create two more just like the ones we PLANNED to finish today! 🙂
I’d like to say I’ve got my work cut out for me, but I actually have to cut that out, too!
I did wear my new tattoo sleeve to class today. Isn’t it pretty? I have another one that is a black outline of a dahlia. It is also on a light beige sleeve so it looks like a tattoo sleeve. Gotta mix it up anyway I can!
That’s all for now. Tomorrow I’ll tell you of yesterday’s harrowing trip to the yarn store.
Hug yourself for me!
Janet

Okay, I sympathize with your frustration with making quilting blocks. That’s how I feel when it comes to trying to crochet or knit, both of which you do beautifully! With all your volunteering at school, you have less time to work on this during the week. But your volunteering is important to you, too. (Not to mention to the kids and the teachers). Everyone has their own personalities and talents. I’ll bet some of the women in the class go home and tell their husbands about this crazy, wonderful lady who wears a sleeve with tattoos all over it. (By the way, it’s gorgeous! Where in the world did you ever find it?) They probably envy your gutsiness and spirit. So don’t get down on yourself.
Now what in the world can be done about Buffy?????
