Top of the Morning!

Who says you can only say that on St. Patrick’s Day! I think it’s a morning brightener for the greeter and the greetee, so I say, use it!

Well, hello, friends!  It has been a long time since my last post, but there’s been a good reason: I’ve been doing my homework! And the good news is that it is Sunday and I finished it LAST NIGHT!!!!  WOO HOO!

For tomorrow’s class we were to have all 12 blocks done so we can get feedback from the rest of the class members tomorrow on the arrangement of the blocks.

And remember that I had six blocks to do: the two that I had to re-do because they were too small, and then the four from the week, two each of the Ohio Star and the Card Trick.   The latter two have to be laid out before you start piecing, so that you can see how it goes together. They are complicated with lots of pieces with different angles.

Well, at least they are complicated for the beginning quilter, which we all are.  Just a note here about the members of the class and the two teachers we’ve had: they are the nicest people!!!  it is a pleasure coming to class and feel all that support.  We all laugh together at our foibles and no one has an agenda other than trying to do the best we can do on this project.  We ask each other questions if we didn’t hear that last part and no one or no question is made to feel insignificant. It’s a great learning experience.

I understand that the teachers are putting together a Quilt II class and you can bet that I will sign up for that one, too, although not right away.

And, as far as my own personal learning experience, I really didn’t know what to think when I first started the class. It was overwhelming and I wasn’t sure that I liked it, I mean, really liked it.  You know, did I like it enough to choose to do it even if it wasn’t homework? Well, it took a bit, but I can definitely answer that now: I do like it and will definitely do more of it, even if it’s not homework!!!

I could see the improvement between the first and the second time I made the same patterned block.  and when you can see that, it makes all the difference.

Plus, now, Katya keeps me company in the sewing room!  🙂

And here are the finished blocks laid out with the sashing and cornerstones just placed where they will go.  Remember that the border is a dark blue with the green, pink and yellow accents.

The pink sashing and the yellow cornerstones were picked out last week with the advice of my teacher and some of the employees at the quilt store.  The block in the middle at the bottom is the Ohio Star which is the design that the store uses for its logo, albeit in different colors and patterns. it is one of my favorites to do.

And, by the way, the store  in Rogers is called Quilted Treasures.  It’s a wonderful place to learn with a great atmosphere of creativity and acceptance and cheerfulness.

Which reminds me, I need to finish my homework for the other two part class I started on Friday.  It’s a raw edge applique class and I’m doing a picture of lady slippers.   I know, I know, am I crazy?  Well, yes. But you knew this already. I signed up for both the beginning quilting and this class at the same time.  If I’d known how much time the first class was to be, I never would have signed up for the second.  Oh well, live and learn.  It’s a back up learning experience for the Blue Heron project which has been on the back burner to the quilt class.

So, I’d better get going.  Tomorrow’s blog will be about Michael’s in Rochester.

Have a Super Sunday and go SeaHawks!

Love,

Janet

  3. How many classes are left in the quilting class? How many sessions in the embroidery class? And, yes, we’re still looking forward to seeing the heron when he’s ready. One huge advantage to taking the quilting class is that it forces you to keep going. You’re an inspiration! Thanks.
