Post Easter Greetings!
I hope you all had plenty of family, good food, and chocolate yesterday.
Me? I made the mistake of having some M&M’s Saturday night, just to see what chocolate tastes like. Remember I’m a sugarholic and have been doing without sweets since just before Halloween. And losing weight with it, too, I might add, almost up to 15 pounds by staying away from the cookies and candies. I’ll take it because it’s not like I’m on a diet, yet I’m gradually losing.
So, why did I have the M&M’s? Why is the sky blue? Just thought I’d see what it felt like to be awake with the sugar and caffeine. Oh, forgot to tell you, have chosen decaf coffee since first surgery in 2013.
Boy oh boy was that a mistake. It hit me like the proverbial ton of bricks, although I really don’t think that the ton of bricks appears in the book of Proverbs.
It was enough to make me stay away from my mother-in-law’s famous Bourbon Brownies on Easter. And I passed them up and down the table many times. They are fantastic; I remember.
Sigh.
Let’s just say that I got the M&M urge out of my system that Saturday night.

Saturday night I was listening to the weather report remembering how important it was when I was a little girl. After all, if it was snowing, you couldn’t wear your new Easter shoes to church. Remember those black or white patent leather shoes with the strap across the front and a buckle on the side? Worn with those thin white nylon anklets? And when you got older, maybe the strap was movable to the back, so you could wear the shoes without the strap and buckle like the big girls? Granted, they were harder to run in like that, but you were supposed to be older and hopefully less rambunctious. I truly think my mom was hoping that for me for the rest of her life. What can I say.
And if it was cold you couldn’t wear your frilly new Easter dress because those are really designed for hot summer days. Face it, in Minnesota, the weather on Easter hardly ever is hot and quite often includes blowing and snow. Even if she let you wear your new dress, having to wear boots with it was like the stride of the Colossus, having a foot in each season. Who wanted to do that? Yet, how many of us remember sliding around on icy sidewalks with those smooth soles? Getting out of the car and stepping in the slush at the curb? Having cold ears because the wind whipped around those cute hats with the little flowers and ribbons on them?
And I haven’t even talked about the little white gloves yet.
Ahhhh, but if it was a nice sunny day, it was glorious to sit in church and hear the familiar songs and rustle a bit in your new dress and crunchy slip.
And stare at the dead foxes draped around the shoulders of the matrons seated in the row ahead of you.

The cats have lost their collars today and seem to be getting along better. Hmmmmmmm. I’ll have to think about that. Their stealthiness is quieter; not sure if I like that or not.

Needle felting is an interesting craft involving sharp hooks that end in barbs like fish hooks. You push wool roving through fabric with these sticks with the sharp barbs and the roving attaches to the fabric by hooking on the wrong side of the fabric. My right hand and arm are still bandaged up in bulky finger wraps and cotton arm wraps. What could go wrong??!
I made an aquarium scene on a purse for my daughter-in-law a few years ago, but was not satisfied with it because the fish I tried to make look like one of her beloved fish turned out looking more like a bird than a fish.
Well, now she has different fish. Bigger fish. Rounder fish. I ripped out the old birdie fish and am going to try again. Wish me luck.
Be the sunshine today!
Love,
Janet
Thanks for the sunshine, Janet! Loved your memory of patent leather shoes. I was lucky to have red ones when I was very young. Keep track of those pesky cats and keep on keepin’ on!
