Milk And Cookies!!

Good Morning, Friends!

What a gorgeous morning to plant my very first perennials! My wonderful mother-in-law has graciously volunteered to dig the holes to lessen the stress on my right hand which is recovering from a recent swelling. Yay, Heather! I am excited to see the plants finally in the garden.

Having purchased them two weeks ago before I went to Michigan, I am still amazed that I haven’t killed them.  You know, too much sun, too much shade, not enough or too much water.

I am amazed.

Well, I promised to let you know how the last session/party for Flashcard Friends went. After a rocky start it turned out just fine.  I had planned on taking off early from 4th grade to get things set up, but the day’s math lesson was on taxes and I ended up taking a group of five to the Media Center for extra help. We got so wrapped up in taking 2 % of line 7 and adding it to line 9 that it was time for the party before I knew it!

And then, when I returned to my first room of the day to pick up the cooler of milk and the Oreos, the room was empty and the door was locked!  ARG!!! So, that slowed me down a little bit.

But it gave the kids a chance to wash their hands, prop the door open and go outside to play a bit. When I arrived, they helped set things up and we sat down to a cheery yellow tablecloth spread out on the ground, cups of milk and lots and lots of Oreos.

Two of the sixth graders were absent which made me sad because they were the “teachers” that had been with the fourth graders the longest. I’ll have to catch up with them next week.

All in all we had eight kids at the picnic and they gave me some great feedback for next year, for they felt that the program needed to continue and even expand to division!!

Well, I had better get ready for the “Planting of the Perennials” coming soon to our backyard!

Oh, and speaking of our backyard, I’ve been advised that since we now have a damn lattice alongside our damn patio, we need to have another damn patio party.  Stay tuned for details!

Have a safe and memorable Memorial Day weekend!

Love,

Janet

  2. Janet, you made the planting easy by having the plants all picked out and positioned. I love the combination of plants that you picked . . . textures and colors . . . it will be so fun watching your garden grow. THANK YOU for letting me do it. That’s my fun!!!
The Flash Card Friends sounds like a great idea!!! You ALL win; the student “teachers”, the students, and you.
    Have I told you I love you? : – )
