Cooled Coffee, Buttonholing for the Brave, and a Stainless Steel Firepit Poker!

Greetings, Friends, and  welcome to June showers, July flowers!

We’ve had a few of what my dad would have called good soakers today.  You know, the kind of steady rain that makes you want to curl up with a good book.  I do feel sorry for those going to see the Rolling Stones at TCF Stadium tonight since we are to have rain until around 9 pm. The Stones will be dry because they have a roof over them, but the audience will be wearing rain gear and plastic bags since  umbrellas are not allowed in that stadium.

Yep. Cold and wet. Welcome to Minnesota, Brits.  The cold we supplied all on our own,  but we borrowed the wet to be more like the foggy mist of London.

And if you believe that, I have a bridge in Havasu, Arizona to sell you!

*************************************Ha! Made you look!***********************

I forgot my coffee in the car this morning. Normally this isn’t a problem, I could just go out and get it. But I was getting new tires put on my Jeep and they had already pulled my car into the shop before I realized it.  ARGH!!!!!

I started for the shop to be stopped by the sign that I needed protective eyewear to enter the area.  Dang! I forgot mine at home.

So I sat down to read, expecting to be there for nearly an hour even though they said 15-20 minutes.

Imagine my surprise when they were right!!!! I was on the road in 20 minutes and I could still zap my coffee when I got home!   Made my day!

And, it emboldened me to learn how to put in a buttonhole.

Notice the choice of words there. “To learn how” is not quite the same  as actually putting in the buttonhole. I now know how to put in said button hole.

I have not as yet successfully put IN a dang buttonhole in the garment that needs three of the rascals.

I am still in the “It would be a good idea to practice making buttonholes before you try to put one in the garment.”

And, as much of a fan of practicing  as I am,  I am mystified by the twenty or so buttonholes that I have practiced on.

I am getting worse. And there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to why some turn out and some do not.

And not only do they not turn out, they do so spectacularly.

Sigh.

First of all, it required a sewing machine foot that I had never seen, or seen used.  Secondly, I inserted the button in the wrong half and then thought I had  attached the foot backward. But, even I knew that the foot didn’t belong at that angle! Then, I was supposed to lower a lever and I tried. I really tried, but the machine wouldn’t run with that lever lowered.

Hmmmm.  Then, while reaching down to pick up something off the floor,  I saw there was another lever behind the first. Yep. that lowered into place and the machine ran!

YAY! Now, if I could just put a dang buttonhole successfully in the garment!!!!!!

Remember laying out patterns on fabric on the floor? Well, I have discovered that if you make something for someone who is four, you can cut it out on the kitchen counter!!!!Cassie's nightie, damn trellis, firepit poker 004  See?Cassie's nightie, damn trellis, firepit poker 005 Boo!

I’ll let you know how the buttonholes went.

And, last, but certainly not least is the tale of the stainless steel firepit poker.

I have one.

It’s four and a half feet long.

And it won’t rust because it’s fashioned out of stainless steel.

By the hubster, of course. Who else??!!!Cassie's nightie, damn trellis, firepit poker 008

Oh, and here’s a pic of the new trellis.Cassie's nightie, damn trellis, firepit poker 007

Yes, it has the same design as the pergola: the hubster built it!!

Have a Thrilling Thursday and all of you who work in the Osseo District, have a great last day of students! And if you live at EB,  good luck with your move!!!

Love,

Janet
