Hello Folks!
And a mighty good afternoon to you. The weather here in Minnesota is nigh onto perfect and we are appreciating it, I tell you what! School supply sales are brisk, the State Fair is just around the corner, and I’ll be out looking for the Perseid showers late tonight in my backyard perch.
Yep. Just me and the mosquitoes.
The cats will be watching me from their bug free haven on the porch. They worry about me when I do this; I just know they do. What’s she doing out there in the dark?
Of course, they are concerned when I do one of my balance exercises, too. I start out sitting down. Then I stand up, turn around and sit down again. The first time I did this exercise, they got up with me, preparing to follow me to wherever I was going. When I turned around and sat down, they were very confused. And then, when I continued to do this same action, the confusion turned to concern. I could see it in their faces. Well, Katya, the old girl has certainly lost it now.
Imagine how concerned they are after we took them camping with us! The hubster tried to soften the blow by telling them that it was just like being in an even bigger porch.
They didn’t buy it at first. Buffy had been camping with us last fall. Her first reaction to the camper was to scootch in between the canvas side of the camper and the mattress—out of sight out of mind. Katya did the very same thing on this trip. She finally got comfortable on the third morning we were there, just before we left.
And, of course they were very comfortable moving everywhere at night while we were sleeping.
Both also began sneaking under the sleeping bag to take naps, so we had to be careful when going to bed.
Surprisingly enough they were frightened by the sound of any vehicle driving or person walking on the gravel road in the campground. And here I need to explain that we camp in very small campgrounds. This one had four spots, a boat ramp and a pit toilet. So there really wasn’t that much traffic on the gravel road. But even when one of us would walk to the camper from the facilities, they would hide at first.
We camp in the Superior National Forest sites. Some would call them primitive, but I don’t because they have four walls and a door with a lock on the bathroom. I have camped where that is a frivolity. And the two lakes we like to frequent even have a bathroom with a cement floor that is kept clean!!!!!
Of course you still have the sound of buzzing flies to keep you company while you sit. And you worry what you’d say if you would hear another camper crunch across the gravel to try the door.
Uh, occupied.
Um, just a minute.
Ah, it’ll take a while. Sorry.
Speaking of bathrooms, if you’re heading up to Two Harbors any time soon, be careful of the stall to the left at the Holiday Station on the north side of town. That’s as you are facing the stalls. The seat is broken so that a second after you sit, it slides violently to the side. Your arms fly up as you experience that free amusement ride for women. I didn’t tell the manager because a) the seat is still there and b) I’ve had worse. It was the first flush toilet I’d seen in days, I was still flush with excitement! (sorry for the pun) ( not really, it made me laugh)
So, camping was good, the weather forecast of rain all weekend was wrong, and even though I said I’d never get them, I liked my new zip off pants that turn into shorts. Very practical and surprisingly not dorky looking.
Have a wonderfully wacky Wednesday and enjoy the weather!
Love,
Janet
You weren’t kidding about going camping with 2 cats. Good job!! You are much bolder than I am. Sounds like the camping was a good getaway for all of the family.
