Helicoptering, Rainbows, Relaxing

Good Morning, Friends!
Today is the helicopter ride for the hubster. It looks like he’s got good weather. Since we are staying in Lihue where the airport is, he didn’t have far to go to check in. I declined to go, remembering that on the helicopter ride to the glacier in Alaska—– remember, that’s where he fell up to his hips in the glacier even though he was following the flag trail——have I not told you that story?—–well, I will one of these days—- stay tuned.

Where was I? Oh yes, the helicopter ride to the glacier in Alaska. I closed my eyes on the ride there and peeked a bit on the way back. I figured that since this ride in Kauai was for an hour, and since I didn’t enjoy the 5 minute one, that maybe I could let this one go.

The hubster will be happy as a clam; he loved the Alaska experience even though he was carrying ice water in his boots on the way back.

We tried to get one with the doors off, but you have to have at least two people to make a reservation on that one. And even though I literally gave the hubster the dress off my back yesterday, there was no way I would ride in a doorless helicopter.

So why did I give him the dress off my back yesterday? It was so he could stuff it into the snorkel gear bag to distinguish it from the others on the beach. The dress was pink and red knit, so wrinkles just shook out afterward.

Oh, and I was using it as a coverup on the beach so didn’t need it while he snorkeled.
I didn’t snorkel this time because the last time I did so, I got seasick and threw up a little in the water. Yeah, I know. TMI

And speaking of being seasick, I wasn’t at all last night on the whale watching tour. The hubster was uncomfortable, trying first ginger and then Dramamine. He said it kept him from getting worse. Next time, he’ll try the patch, which works so well for me.

The whale watching tour was more of a whale waiting tour. We did see one. And we saw a bout 40 spinner dolphins. And a beautiful sunset. It was fun to be on the catamaran and feel the wind.

And we saw a complete rainbow! Vibrantly colored, it at times became double.

We were on Lawai Beach in Poipu earlier in the day for the snorkeling and relaxing and lunch. I did see a monk seal and a sea turtle swimming just beyond the big rocks, maybe 20 feet away. For lunch we had tuna jerky, POG juice (passionfruit, orange, guava), Wheat Thins, and string cheese.
And small Shamrock shakes for the ride home after the cruise.

Yes, there was a McDonalds. But I think it’s closing soon. I saw a bit of that article in the newspaper I bought yesterday.

I bought it because the front page article was about a group of people stranded overnight on the hike the hubster was on the day before. One of the streams became impassable.

Still grateful for his return. And, he’s not taking the Alleve any more.

Well it’s more relaxing on the beach today, followed by playing Small Change, and then on to the luau tonight.

What’s SmallChange? It’s a call in trivia program on WTIP out of Grand Marais. It’s on from 7 to 8 pm on Friday nights. We found it when we were camping. It’s a great deal of fun. You don’t win anything, but you get to say where’s you’re calling from. I’m Bright Side of Brooklyn Park. Some of the other regulars are Intellectual Side of Caribou Lake, the Bathtub, TwentyThree Seconds in the Past, the Laundry Room, Grandpa’s Cabin, St. Paul Dining Room, among others. There’s plenty of laughter from the hosts as well as the callers.

I’ll have to check and see if it’s on tonight, well at 3pm here. Sometimes the Cook County sports are on instead.

Time to slather on the sunblock!

Have a funfilled Friday! Try slow.

Love,
Janet
