Hello Friends,
I posted a video on Facebook yesterday; the subject was 12 Stylish Scarf WrapsThat Are
Totally Worth Getting Tied Up In.
Ummmmm. The title has given me pause. There’s something a little 50 Shades of Gray about it.
Nevermind. I just wanted to learn a few new ways to tie a scarf.I mean, I know the Midwest tried and true tie a muffler around your neck to stay warm style. Heavens, we had to know how to do that by Kindergarten or freeze on the walk home, right?
But I wanted the scarf to look elegant, not just warm.
So today I followed the visual instructions as young woman with perfect long tresses modeled how to tie these scarves.
I was determined.
Little did I know what I was in for.
First of all the woman was lithe with perfectly coiffed long tresses, and, well, young. Now I don’t hold that against her, but let’s face it, the same knotted scarf on her is not going to look the same on me.
Second of all, she had several hundred dollars worth of scarves there to work with. I had one rectangular and one too small square to work with.
But still I persisted.
And it was a good thing I did, because as I tried to keep up with her, I removed the scarf too fast once too often so now I need to cover up the red mark on my neck.
Yep. With a scarf. Tied elegantly.
Okay here are the rules I developed for following this video:
1. Do not wear a hoodie. It gets in the way and you get way too hot.
2. Take off your glasses before you take off your hoodie. Maybe this should be #1.
3. Remove earrings. They snag your one rectangular scarf. Now you have to tie another knot in a place to hide the snag.
4. Wear a long sleeved tee shirt without any printing or design on the front. This will make you feel more Parisian, which is the whole point of learning to tie an elegant scarf.
And here are the scarves that I could do successfully:
The Rose? Nope. looked like a rather large node on my neck.
The Preppy Casual? Yes I could do that, but I refuse to call it that.
The Drape? I could do that with my shawl, so, yes.
The Cowgirl? I could do it, but won’t.
The French? Yep.
The Petite? Did I mention that I had a hard time with the youth of the model? Can, but won’t.
The Twist. Can, but now they’re all starting to blur into one style.
The Boho. Wore this many times while on chemo. Don’t especially want to wear it now, for that reason.
The Cozy. See above for mention of Midwest scarf tying for Kindergarten.
The Classic. See above for blurring of styles.
The Turtleneck. See Classic.
The Infinity. Well, first of all, she got a freshen up on her hairdo, and those curls were perkier and bouncy. Nevertheless, I liked the tie the knot in the front, twist it once and whip it over your head and be done with it aspect. Just so you know, I didn’t quite whip it over my head. I more or less wiggled it over my noggin. Where did she get these extra long scarves??
I intend to keep this video saved somewhere that I will forget when I actually need it. Maybe I’ll save it to a thumb drive.
If you try to follow the video, good luck, and may the Force be with you.
Love,
Janet
I almost NEVER go on Facebook, but happily I got to see what you posted on tying the scarves. They were great. Now . . . where do I put it so I have the information when I need it? Thanks for posting it, though. She really had a lot of good suggestions.
