It’s the Little Things, Part Two

Okay, maybe I have been looking at fabrics online for too long. And I did binge read until I finished my first Virgil Flowers book this morning at 2:45. ( it was good!) And there was the night before when I couldn’t put down Beartown by Backman. ( also, good!)

So I might have a little eye strain. But I don’t think that’s the reason I see religious icons in this fabric. See that top row?  And then another one in the middle?  Don’t they look like a row of religious icons? Saints, maybe?

Granted, when you enlarge them they look a little, well, let’s just say, odd, for saints. The skinny ones look like aliens and the fat ones look like they should be in the Queen of Hearts garden, helping to  set the croquet hoops.

But when I look at them from faraway, I hear Gregorian chants in a large open chancel.

I’m not buying the fabric. I don’t need aliens staring at me while I knit.  And, although I sometimes  enjoy Gregorian chants, I don’t want to hear them all day.

I’m also not going to worry about my eyes. I think it’s just the fabric holic’s winter version of  a summer’s staring at clouds and finding shapes.

So, when was the last time you took some time to find shapes in the clouds?

I look forward to lying on the backyard swing and doing just that.  Just as soon as the morning  frost is out of the cushions.

On Monday, I wrote about the small things, but I left somethings out. Why? Because I couldn’t find my notes that I jotted down a week or so ago.

Yep. They were written on a small post-it. Sigh. I found them a few hours after I published.

I do write down ideas once I see a continuing thread. But I write them down wherever I am: could be on a crossword puzzle, a grocery list, a post-it, a to do list, the backside of an envelope. You understand the problem.

I tried to consolidate the ideas about a year ago by buying a pack of those little  3×5  notebooks with the spiral wire across the top? The ones with the brightly colored covers? Red, green, and blue? Now I would have a place to jot down my ideas.

I put a notebook in my purse, in my car, in with my embroidery, and in with my knitting. I put one on the table next to my recliner in the living room, and I put one on the kitchen counter. I put one on the end table next to the chair where I watch tv.  I put one on the night stand. I had one next to my sewing machine.

Yep. So, you are asking, why didn’t this work?  Well, for one thing, when the cleaners come, EVERYTHING is stashed into the nearest available drawer, cupboard, closet, porch or car.

We have lost things in this process, and then pulled everything out in an unholy mess, looking for it. Makes the cleaning a moot point some weeks.

But this answer doesn’t cover the notebooks that are in the purse, the car, and sewing room. For that, just let me use a quote here, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

+++++++*******

So, what else was on the post-it note about the small things? Well, the story about the Asian beetle in my glass of water, of course. And then the very small  comment  by my onc doc that she now only needed to see me once a year instead of every six months.

Wait, what?  WHOOOOOOOP!  WHOOOOOOPP!!!!!!!

It was a quiet statement on her part. It was a big brass band on mine.

And the last thing on the list was the dumping of used chemicals by 3M. For some reason, I related this to the making of post-it notes. Maybe I heard that the materials used to make the handy dandy little slips of paper were the ones identified in the waterways of the southern metro. In any event, it was about the little things that caused big issues. 3M settled quickly, which was the only good thing about the whole situation.

I’ll be going to a dog toe shaving party later this afternoon. Grand dog, Bailey needs this done often, but it tickles. and then she pulls her foot out of my son’s grip.  So,  I’ll be spooning with her on the kitchen floor, occasionally  feeding her a treat to distract her. Her toes aren’t small, but the treats are, so this story qualifies to be in this post.

Just in case you were wondering.

Have a wonderfully wacky Wednesday and find some time in the next few days to look up at those clouds. You’ll be smiling, I promise.

Love,

Janet
