Mistakes

Hello Friends!

Well, there are mistakes , and then there are mistakes.

There is the measuring mistake made by the store owner cutting the yardage I needed to make this new dress pattern. I got it home and laid it out against the same yardage in a different print.

Nope. Not even close. So I called and she very warmly said she’d cut me a new length and how did I want to receive it? I said I could drive over and get it, which is what I just did. She thanked me.
How cool is that?

And then there are the mistakes I find in my knitting. Sometimes I catch them when they occur. Most often, though, I catch them after the item is finished. Last night I discovered two dropped stitches in the item I was blocking!!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with blocking, it is the washing of the finished item , followed by stretching it out and pinning it down to retain its shape.                                                                                                                                                                      The length and width of the piece I was blocking yesterday was fine, but these two lone unconnected stitches waved their round little bums in the air at me. Whoops!!!                                                                                                                                                            I’ll have to fix them after the piece dries.

And then there are the mistakes that happen due to no fault of your own, like when your interchangeable needles decide to come unscrewed while you’re knitting. All of a sudden your right needle isn’t pulling the 108 stitches that it’s supposed to be. It is considerably lighter.

It’s like in the movies when the villain or hero, depending on the plot, disconnects the particular train cars from the rest. The locomotive keeps on chugging along pulling the front part of the train while the back half slows and slows, and slows down, finally stopping.

The difference with knitting, though, is that the cars don’t come off the track,  and the wheels don’t come off the cars.  Sigh.

And then there’s the mistake that you make when you automatically lock the porch door after you put the chicken broth out to cool.

Now, usually that’s not a problem, but remember when I told you on the last blogpost  that the hubster has a new project?

Yep. I locked him out.

He is carefully keeping the stain fumes in the garage and has been using the porch door to come and go.

He also uses the porch to store his painter’s pants, seeing as how they reek as well.

So he changes out of them on the porch.

Uh huh.

Good thing I was still in the kitchen and could hear his shivery knock on the door, accompanied by the glare.

So, you see, there are mistakes,  and then there are mistakes.

I hope you have a terrific Friday. We’re back to slow walking on the snow and ice and starting to stop well ahead of the intersections here with the snow we have now. It’s like switching to your winter duds. Be warm and be aware.

Love,

Janet

  1. Thanks for the reminder that mistakes are a part of life. This morning at the pottery studio, I dipped a pot in the wrong color glaze. Then I dropped another pot on the floor and broke it in pieces, to the tune of laughter and the comment “we’ve all done that.”
