Impulse Items

Greetings and Salutations!!

Hope you’re staying warm and dry, sipping on a steaming cup of holiday cheer.

Me? I did without coffee this week, choosing herbal tea instead.

Yeah, the jury’s still out on that one. I’ll let you know.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Impulse items. Usually I can remain strong by the checkout, only occasionally giving it to peanut or regular M & M’s.

That’s why I was so surprised when I picked up a totally impulse item in the produce section today.

The produce section??

Yes!  And here it is:

Isn’t it cute? It reminded me of Little Cindy Lou Who with the little curl on top of her head.

Well,  I had to put it in the cart.

It is an organic red kuri squash. I have no idea how to cook it so it’ll be an adventure! Will let you know.

The other impulse item I picked up today was not  technically an impulse item. My birdsong clock in the sewing room is not responding to the new batteries.  Makes me sad. I count on that clock to give me a robin’s song throughout the winter. There are other birdsongs, eleven to be exact, but it was the robin that I wanted to hear.

Why? Because it means “Spring is coming,” my mantra long before George R.R. Martin coined “Winter is coming.”

Anyway, no there wasn’t a birdsong clock at Aldi this morning.

But there was a holiday song clock that will suffice until I find a replacement.

So, you see it was an impulse, and yet it wasn’t.

And speaking of something that is but isn’t (and, yes, that is an official transition), have you seen the new version of Maigret starring Rowan Atkinson? Yes, the Rowan Atkinson who plays Mr. Bean, and no, it isn’t funny.

Maigret(my gray) is the French detective created by Georges Simenon. Many actors have played him; Atkinson is the latest.

Think 1950’s Paris.  Head of detectives. Smart, cerebral Maigret with his beautiful, quiet wife and his team of loyal underlings who’d follow him anywhere.

There are books, many of them. This, however, is on Britbox.  Try it.  There are only two episodes available and I know they’ve done a third.

For being such a terrific comedic actor in Black Adder and Mr. Bean, Atkinson is believable and strong in the part. Great production values and strong supportive cast.

Another recommendation is Shetland. They just released Season 4, and I binged through all six episodes in two nights. The trouble with that one? Cliffhangers! I remember watching shows like that  and having to wait a week for the resolution. As Poe’s  raven said, “Nevermore!”

Well, I am glad that I finished washing the windows and vacuuming the screens yesterday. Now, when it snows tonight, I’ll be able to see each little flake more clearly!!!

Have a good weekend and a warm, grateful Thanksgiving with the people you love. Hug yourself for me.

Love,

Janet
