Storage Hints, Solitaire, and Red Wing

Greetings and Salutations of Joy and Mirth!

Today I have a few PSA’s , a request for ideas, a co-inky-dink, and an announcement.

Starting with the request first: I need a theme song. Specifically, I need a theme song when I’m hunting those pesky Japanese beetles. Even more specifically, I need a theme song for when I’m hunting those pesky Japanese beetles with my Bugzooka.

I have tried the themes from Jaws and from Indiana Jones. Neither worked well. My sister has suggested the theme from Bridge over the River Kwai, or, if you played it in band like we did, Colonel Bogey’s March. I have tried that and have found that I start marching smartly, thereby negating the element of surprise necessary for nabbing the little blokes. Sorry, channeling Sir Alec Guinness there for a bit.

So, you see, I need some ideas for a musical theme for sneaking up on the bugs and successfully sucking them into the Bugzooka. Any ideas?

Today’s PSA’s are

1)When you play Solitaire on your bed with a deck of cards, sit in the middle of the bed. That way, you have a better chance of the cards staying in their piles instead of sliding toward your legs.
2)When you start the kettle for hot water, put the spout top down so as to activate the whistle when it’s done. Otherwise,
the same noise goes on and on and on and you are not alerted to the fact that it’s boiling. At least I wasn’t.
3) You’re welcome.

As far as storage hints go, when you create those cute little boxes to store the various little things that you save because you know if you got rid of them you’d need them in a week, check to see that those little things are worth storing.
Case in point. Yesterday I needed some velcro tabs. I went to my cute little cigar box labeled velcro, specifically looking for two little plastic bags of black two inch velcro strips that I thought would be perfect.
Much to my surprise, they were ALL the one side of the velcro. You know, the loops, not the messy stuff that the loops press and lock into?
Oh, for crying out loud.
Completely useless.
Tossed them.
I still had some other velcro that I could use. In fact it was a two sided strip that I had ripped out of something else, years ago. So I could finish the project , but it was just the principle of the thing, you know?
Lesson learned. Before storing something in a cute little box, check to see if it’s USABLE!!!!!

And, next on today’s agenda is a co-inky-dink, or a coincidence.

The great detective Nero Wolfe maintains that there are no coincidences. Only in the the dictionary. I disagree. I think that it’s just a small world.
Isn’t it.

While looking for a book at the library, I was searching favorite authors. Sara Gruen who wrote Like Water for Elephants, Ape House, and Riding Lessons came to mind. I did find online that she had written another book called At the Water’s Edge. I found it and checked it out.

Then, you know how other “authors you might like” are listed below? Well, there I found Christina Baker Kline, who wrote Orphan Train which keeps crossing my path so I know I need to read it. But the book of hers that was in the library was A Piece of the World, a fictionalized account of the story behind Andrew Wyeth’s painting Christina’s World. You know, the one with the girl on the ground reaching back toward the house across the golden grass? I have always been drawn to that painting.
Anyway, here was the book with a story about it, so I checked it out.
Fancy my surprise when on page 30 it is revealed that Christina’s mother’s favorite song is Pretty Red Wing!! She likes the melody. She says it makes the housework go faster.

CO-INKY-DINK!!!!!!

I mean, what are the chances??

And finally, an announcement: we bought a new camper!!!
Being as how we started out in a pup tent, received a canvas tent for a wedding present, and moved to back pack camping when the kids were teens, then bought a used camper to save my knees, I thought we had reached the apex of camping comfort when I had a sink to brush my teeth instead of spitting into a bush.
Now I’ve got reading lights above the bed!!!!!!!!
WHOOP! WHOOP!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Have a wonderful Wednesday and hug those you love.

Love,
Janet
