Good Morning!
It’s raining here in the Metro. Temp is at 40 otherwise it’d be snow.
And I’m okay with that.

Yes, it’s all about the timing.
For instance, the hubster has yet to change his bedside clock to Daylight Savings Time. Why, you ask? I have no idea. It is a newfangled clock that he purchased specifically for its newfangledness. So who knows how to change the time? I surely don’t.
Nor do I want to learn how, because then it would be my job.
Do you know what I mean?
In the meantime, I zip my mouth.
And look at the clock with the correct time on my side of the bed!!

I came up with the title for this post this morning just as I was about to take a shower.
Ladies, you will recognize this time of year as the beginning of the Get the Legs in Shape for Shorts Season. In other words, you start shaving again after the hairier winter months.
Well, I was a few minutes from that very activity when I realized timing was everything.
You see, I have a radio tuned to Classical MPR in the bathroom, so that putting on make up, taking off make up and showering/shaving are performed to the tunes of Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven. And occasionally more modern composers like Leonard Bernstein.
Today, the music from “West Side Story” was playing, specifically the “Symphonic Dances.”
And I was minutes away from beginning shaving when the music from the very last scene was playing.
Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the movie or know that it was based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
As the music played, I could see the scene with Maria walking ahead of the gang carrying Tony’s body on their shoulders. The music has the hopeful higher theme followed by the soft but insistent lower brass notes of the tragedy.
The music perfectly matches the scene on the screen, with all its emotional kick.
It has always given me goosebumps.
And therein lies the problem.
If I had been shaving my legs in the spring ritual while this particular music was playing, well, you can just imagine.
Timing is everything.

While I am writing to you, I thought I’d pass on some book recommendations. Sara Gruen’s “At the Water’s Edge” is terrific. It’s WWII and the Loch Ness Monster and Scotland. What else do you need? Oh yes, there’s gaslighting, too.
Alice Hoffman’s “Red Garden” was good. A little like James Michener on a smaller scale—hundreds of years instead of thousands.
Matt Goldman, a MN author is terrific. Broken Ice centers around the MN State Boys Hockey tournament. Never thought I’d read about hockey hair in a mystery! “Gone to Dust” is also good. All happen in the Metro area. The protagonist is a guy named Nils Shapiro. Just his name is a kick.
“Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” was also a fine read, as was “Before We Were Yours.”
Now reading “Driving Lessons” by Zoe Fishman, after reading “Saving Ruth.”
Next up is Anne Rivers Siddons”The Girls of August.” Will let you know what I think.
Time to sew some little bags. Have a thankful and thrilling Thursday! Wash your hands with warm water and soap. Scrub! It’s what does the trick, not just running soap over your fingers. PSA from Science Woman.
Love,
Janet
