Good Morning Friends!
I can see blue sky, I don’t smell smoke, and I’m not wading through humidity.
I voted for mayor yesterday and received an “I voted” sticker, still the best sticker in the world.
And I saw a Fed Ex truck delivery guy bringing a package into the Fed Ex store. I’ll tell you, I peeked around the corner to see the letters on that truck, half expecting UPS or USPS. It would not have been the strangest thing that happened this year, you know that to be true!
The break in the humidity is welcome, although the hubster and I can’t really complain. We were camping in northern Wisconsin where the fire danger is low according to Smokey. Sure enough, their creeks and streams are bubbling merrily along. No sandbars being used for boat tie ups in the middle of their major rivers. Weeds, wildflowers, and trees by the side of the gravel roads look happy. Driving on those gravel roads doesn’t necessitate rolling up the windows upon meeting an approaching vehicle.
It was cool and damp, a welcome change from the weather happening where we live.
And, speaking of where we live ( oh gosh darn, was that an actual transition? My stars. I believe it was!), we had an election here yesterday. Our mayor won a different position last November and we have continued the politicking season ever since.
Sigh.
It was to be done with yesterday’s vote. However, now there is to be a recount because the winner won by ONE vote.
Wow. The good news is that the new mayor will be sworn in Monday, so we’ll know soon.
Speaking of soon( really? Another viable transition? Kudos to me), I am expecting my sturdier METAL knitting needles to arrive soon. I broke one trying to knit my first practice socks.
The hubster, being the hubster, attempted to fix it. We bought some wood glue at at wonderous hardware store next to the Rondeau’s grocery store in Cable, WI. Why is it wonderous? The quantity of categories of merchandise is fantastic, from hot air balloon shaped windsocks to kids’ toys I haven’t seen in a while, games and a good assortment of puzzles to Little Golden Books to a carousel of beautifully hand sewn handbags and totes to lottery tickets!
Now that we had the wood glue, the process of fixing could begin. To say that this process involved rock salt and a spoon and a microwave wouldn’t be fair unless I also told you how that all happened.
Once glued, the needle had to be kept upright. It was attached to a cable which made it harder. We finally emptied the Ziploc box of rock salt, then he held the cable across the bottom while keeping the needle upright. I filled in the box a spoonful at a time with the rock salt, filling around his fingers. When we were done, we put the whole thing—–oh, I forgot to mention that the other end of the cable was attached to the finished cuffs of two socks and two plastic containers holding the two balls of yarn. Well, the whole kit and caboodle went into the microwave as a safe place to dry overnight.
This was to keep it away from us, not the cats who were left home for the first time. And yes, we missed them.
The whole process was moot anyway, because within a minute of using said needle, it broke again.
Oh well. And then I ordered metal needles for which I am waiting.
W begins the word waiting.( Wow. Three for three) It also begins walkies. I was using a mnemonic device to remember what else I needed to pack in the camper before we left. W was for walkies which we use when backing up the camper into a site or the back yard or the driveway. It beats shouting our business all over the neighborhood or campground!
Unless you can’t for the life of you, remember what that W stood for before you left home. Yep. Remembered it just before we needed them at the campsite. For crying out loud.
Oh, it gets better. When we got home, I brought out the walkies, only to discover that we still couldn’t use them because they needed a charge.
Yep. Nobody napping in my neighborhood that afternoon.
Speaking of mnemonic devices, I used the “repeat it until you use it” device yesterday. I was trying to enter the number code to open up my phone to capture the license plate number of a car weaving away after rear ending a car on 694 during rush hour. Chanting one six digit number while typing in a different four digit code was an exercise in concentration. I’ll bet it took me 10 tries, but I finally got it. Whew! Glad the old brain came through.
Last, but certainly not least in my book is chocolate. We bought one of those expensive bigger bars to share. Inside the wrapper was their motto, “May chocolate be your umbrella.” Now isn’t that lovely? It’s made by the Seattle Chocolate Company, Women Owned. I’ll look for that company’s chocolate again; it was delicious! And if I can support a women owned company by eating really good chocolate, by gum, I’m going to!!
I had a chance to visit the absolutely wonderful Chequemagon Bookstore in Washburn again.
Ahhhhhhhhhh.
I picked up a copy of The Red Tent to reread.
Ahhhhhhhh.
Have a wackily wonderous Wednesday filled with at least one Ahhhhhhhhh.
Love,
Janet
We much prefer the entertainment of listening to you and the hubster yell at each other!

Did I tell you that I recently read “The Red Tent”? Ashley recommended it. Since then I’ve talked to other women who read it and recommended it. Warning: no transition. Your story about the FedEx guy started me thinking about doctors. Do you think they go to another doctor to be responsible for their care? Or do you think they take care of themselves?
