Cottage Cheese or Night Crawlers, You Pick

Greetings, Friends!

What a gorgeous day here in flyover land. In fact, even flying over the state today would be lovely.

This photo was taken last weekend north of Tofte on the lumber roads. The maples were glowing and the birches hadn’t started yet. How much more glorious would it be this weekend??

So, yes, a fly over flyover land would be beautiful today.

We were camping about 12 miles from the Greenwood Forest Fire near Isabella in the Superior National Forest. The day we arrived the campfire/charcoal fire ban was lifted; the forest fire’s smoke was not evident at our campground. We drove on opened up roads, just missing the one that led to the fire still being fought by over 200 fire fighters. We saw clearings with semi’s of food for the fire fighters. Outside the  Finland General Store  there was a large bulletin board posted with pictures, official information, and a map indicating the breadth of the fire. Also written on the map was the most current date and how much of the fire was contained. When we left it was 80%.

Next to this official sign were two big signs thanking the fire fighters and the forest rangers. A napkin tacked up above the bigger sign thanked all from the White Bear Lake Fire Fighters.  Pictured on one of the fire photos was a fire engine from Hermantown.

I hadn’t realized that Minnesota city fire fighters were helping, but I am awfully glad they did. When I look at that photo above, I appreciate all they did to save our trees.

I must admit, though, that I did wonder if the wildlife that was displaced in the fire was wandering around our campground. I kept an eye out for bears and moose. Loons I’m not so worried about.

We had our usual conundrums, although none of them involved yarn this time!

Just before going to bed, I took my pills out of the pill container and carried them out of the bathroom into the kitchen area to get a glass of water. Not a problem usually, but somehow, in the five steps it took, I lost one of the four pills.

One of the little tiny ones.

Of course.

Pulled out the flashlight for extra light and checked the bathroom and the kitchen counter. Nope.

Crapulence. Here I was all sleepy and ready for bed and now I had to open my eyes wide and think!!! Plus that, I now had to get down on my hands and knees and check the floor for that little round peach pill.

Well, it was the roundness of said pill that made it difficult to find, for it had bounced.

Yes, bounced.

Onto and into the hubster’s sandal  under the table. I had to upend first his boots and then his sandals.  And it was the second sandal where the little round pill came bouncing out of. This time I saw where it went.

Oh brother.

The Murphy’s Law must have continued into the next morning because when the hubster went out fishing in his canoe-yak, he grabbed the wrong container out of the fridge. Imagine his surprise when he was going to bait his hook with cottage cheese instead of night crawlers!!

I don’t know, maybe you can catch fish in Wisconsin with cottage cheese, but night crawlers work better in Minnesota!!

Well, that’s the news here, other than we had a possum crawl across our back fence, I left the last of the grapes for him/her/them.(not sure what possums are going by these days), and I have decided to make a completely different quilt out of the strips I’ve cut and sewed for another quilt pattern. Oh, and we are learning how to cook in cast iron over a fire in the backyard. Not to worry, there’s a firepit and no squirrels are involved.

Have a Terrific Tuesday.  Share a joke with someone today! Here’s one of my favorites: What did the snail say as he rode on the turtle’s back?  Wheeeeeeee!!!

Love,

Janet

  1. My e-mail has changed, and I do not like it. I’m trying to comment on your Bright Side post, and it won’t let me. My question is: if Lance baited his line with cottage cheese, what did you have for lunch?
