Moustaches, Spinach, Caramel Roll Eating, and Methiolate

Greetings and Salutations, Friends!!

I have started out my day by arriving on time for an appointment that they had scheduled for next week. (!)

I know, right? I mean I can see the similarity of 6 and 16, but at a different time?

I’m not quite sure what to chalk that up to.

Now there’s a wonderment: where the heck did that phrase come from? Was there a chalkboard upon which was written causes for effects? Reasons for actions? Excuses for mistakes? And who did the writing??? It does make one wonder, doesn’t it?

It reminds me of “Mind your p’s and q’s” which referred to the tally (maybe on a chalkboard?) of one’s pints and quarts of ale ingested at the local pub. If you were carrying on a little too loudly, the barman would remind you of just how much you had already consumed, in other words, straighten up and fly right.

Boy, I’m just happy with idioms today, aren’t I?

Happiness reminds me of being thankful for the things we have like hot water for showers, good water to drink, shelter, clothing, warm clothing for the winter, washing machines and dryers,…and rinsed spinach.

Do you remember when fresh spinach was first being sold at the grocery stores here in the midwest? And there were warnings printed on the outside of the bag to be sure to rinse the spinach well? And how you opened that first bag and realized that just one rinse wasn’t going to do the job because of all the sand caught in the leaves? And how you rinsed and rinsed and still ended up with that one mouthful with grit in it?

Well, now the spinach comes well rinsed and I for one consider that as something for which to be thankful.

OOOOOOH, a large bucket crane just pulled up across the street! I wonder what it’s here for.

And yes, I realize that my standards for entertainment are similar to a 9 year old. I don’t have a problem with that.

As my skin doc says, I’m normal. For this year. Hahahahahahahaha!!!

Oh, it drove away. Oh well.

+++++++++++ no transition anyway++

David Crosby passed away a few weeks ago. His passing reminded me of the class project a group of us did for our Adolescent Psychology class at the U. I can’t remember the parameters of the assignment, but I do remember what we did. One played his guitar and we all sang “Teach the Children Well” while wearing big David Crosby moustaches, made by yours truly. I remember hearing the professor’s laughter while we were performing, and I remember the A we all got. Good Golden Gopher Times.

++++++++++nope, none here either++

I was trying to describe the sharp stinging that my thyroid scar still gives me. It is a keloid scar which means, there’s a twisted ropy look to it. I don’t really mind the look of it, but it is tender to the touch and sometimes stings.

I was going to refer to the sting as similar to that of mercurochrome or methiolate. Remember those from our childhood? You fell down and scraped your knee and it was cleaned off and before the bandaid went on, the glass wand came out of that little bottle with the orangey red liquid that was supposed to help but often felt worse than the original scrape? And it was daubed all over the already oozing, open scrape? Causing more tears?

Yeaaaaaaahhhhhh. My doc wouldn’t remember that. He was of the Bactine generation. The liquid that didn’t hurt. That was its selling point. Put something on that scrape that didn’t hurt.

What a novel idea.

Anyway, this doc wouldn’t have a clue. And my primary doc said he had “heard” of it.

Sigh.

I wasn’t even going to mention that we made our own bandaids with adhesive tape and gauze because bandaids were too fancy and expensive. I’ll bet that the little golden book of Nancy the Nurse that my sister had still has the bandaids unopened under the front cover. The book came with them and we never used them because they were so precious.

It was a different time.

+++++++++why did you look?+++

Even though I grew up with mercurochrome and methiolate, I still like to learn new things. And share them. And my most recent discovery is making my world spin, I’ll tell you what!!! Did you know that if you eat your caramel roll upside down, it tastes better? I grew up eating my mom’s caramel rolls which were heavenly, so it’s not as though I am new to the caramel roll eating world. If it’s upside down, all those lovely taste receptors in your tongue dance on tippy toe with delight, whereas if you eat it upright, the roof of your mouth goes, “Hunh, there’s food here.”

I’m just saying, try it.

++++++hahahahahaha+++++

And my last bit of news is that the hubster finished the pantry redo. He made pull out shelves so we can finally see exactly what is on that shelf way back there without having to find a flashlight first. And now, when I know that I have a can of green chilies, I can find it and put it into the enchiladas instead of going without.

In addition to the organizational improvement, these shelves are heavy, so the biceps will benefit also.

Along with the creation and installation of the slides and shelves, the hubster also organized and re stored the staples in appropriate and labeled containers. Being who he is, and being who I am, I went with his organizational plan with some input, but I will tell you this, the Library of Congress has fewer rules and regulations about what goes where.

And that’s all I’m going to say.

Except that we are still married. I think.

Have a Mahvelous Monday! Enjoy the warmer temps, up to 31 degrees now, nearly shorts weather. Have a terrific week ahead. Smile, it makes people wonder what you’re up to. Feed the birds. Hug yourself. Read a good book. Eat a caramel roll.

Love,

Janet

  1. Well, I am so glad to know where “p’s and q’s” came from.
    Yes, yes, yes, prewashed spinach is about the best thing to come along EVER.
    Looking forward to seeing the shelf redo in the kitchen. I had to laugh at your remark about all the rules, more than the Library of Congress.
    It’s good to be back on your list of followers. There’s a note at the bottom that I’ve never seen before. It says that I am commenting using my WordPress.com account. Is that normal?
