Greetings and Salutations , Friends,
You know when one bad thing happens followed quickly by another one, how you’re looking for the third to complete the cycle?
Yeah, that’s what I’m doing. Looking over my shoulder, waiting.
I did think the third thing had arrived this morning when I couldn’t pull into the parking lot at S.R.Harris Fabrics because a coach bus was sitting in the way, unloading cutting mats.
What is the significance of this, you ask? Well, it means that a busload of quilters from outstate has arrived, with their own cutting mats and rotary cutters. Quilters are serious about their craft; the store has its own cutting tables and scissors for cutting fabric yardages, but not for these crafters. Not good enough.
They are exacting, these quilters. They are also generous, funny, approachable, and helpful. I asked one to help with determining whether a fabric was gray or blue. “Hmmmmm, I’d say blue,” she responded. Another called out, to be heard throughout the store, “ There’s a half square triangle on the floor back here.” She knew another quilter had accidentally dropped the piece, probably while trying to match a color. She also knew that said quilter would be frantically trying to find it once she noticed it was missing.
See what I mean? Helpful.
Although I must admit it gave me the giggles on my way to the parking lot to change her call to
“HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE DOWN!!”
With an extra busload of crafters in the building, you’d think it would be bustling. Yeah, not so much because the building is a warehouse.
However, checking out would be another thing altogether. I quickly chose my fabrics, cut them, and paid for them before the visiting quilters had made their choices. So, I guess I can’t really count this a number three of the cycle.
Number one was and continues to be a head shaker. Yesterday I reached across my sewing machine and caught the sleeve of my just finished sweater on the thread cutter. Yep. Cut through the yarn on my sleeve. Thankfully it was only one strand, but the ends are too short to tie in a knot.I am still not satisfied with my fix. Any ideas?
Shortly after that, while trimming a thread, I wasn’t watching where the tips of the scissors were going. Yep, snipped a hole in my quilting gloves. At least I didn’t cut into my finger. I quit sewing after that.
Sigh.
Have a Happy May Day and enjoy the green grass and flowering trees! Hug yourself. Call someone dear to you. Read a good book; “Sipsworth” comes to mind.
Love,
Janet

Re the sweater: clear nail polish? Or a dot of super glue?
