Queen for Three Minutes Today

Greetings, Friends!

How many of you remember that old tv show called Queen for a Day?

For those of you who are younger, this was a half hour show in the 50’s that was a sort of game show in that the winner went home with fabulous prizes. But it was the way she won those prizes that made the show so different.

There were three contestants, all married women with children who were facing hardships and needed help. Whoever was judged the neediest got the prizes which were things like washer/dryers and refrigerators . And they also got to be Queen for a Day with a long white trimmed red cape and a crown and long stemmed red roses. It was the ultimate feelgood program with the winner crying and thanking the host over and over again. A dream come true.

Well, today I am Queen for a Day! Well, actually I am Queen for three minutes tonight, from 8:12 to 8:15, CDT.

And as the proclamation states, ” Long may you live, short may you reign.”

My castle is located in Doonawanly Castleroche, County Cork, Ireland.
It is called Sensible Castle.

And how did this all come about, you ask?

Simple. When offered the choice of buying the 2015 surprise holiday gift from Cards Against Humanity for $15, I sent in my check. How could I not?

Instead of sending new sets of cards as holiday gifts, the 2015 holiday gifts were promised to be sensible and they were.

I received two pair of Hanukkah socks. Who doesn’t need socks?

I received essays written by the fathers of the CAH founders on desirable character traits. Who doesn’t need a talk from a wise father telling you what is really important in this world?

I received thank you notes from the staff that makes the cards in China, describing their one week vacations made possible by our monies. We even got pictures!

I received a notepad, again a sensible gift.

And finally, a chance to rule a kingdom, albeit for three minutes, which when you think of it, is quite a sensible move.

And so, from 8:12 to 8:15 tonight, I will be ruling. Perhaps I will make myself a crown like Linda Maynard wore in Kindergarten. I always loved that crown. He mom had made it out of cardboard and aluminum foil. It was shiny and perfect.

Or, I may wear the expandable ponytail holder–chignon holder?— that I used to play with as a youngster. It is silver with pink stones and makes a perfect tiara.

I shall be a good ruler and shan’t make the peasants kneel.

I do, however, wish there were some cabana boys around so I could mug to the camera like Mel Brooks, “It’s good to be Queen!”

Have a glorious weekend!

Love,
Janet
